Intro videos are a great way to show your potential customers why they should hire you before they even reach out to you. Many business owners who do this see a rise in customer response and hire rate. For some of you who have never tried this you may be asking “How do I make an intro video?” or “What do I include in my intro video?”. Below are steps on how to make an intro video that will stand out to your new customers.

1) Have an Outline Ready: While you may know everything about your business, you will want to avoid improvising in your intro video. When you have a solid outline available you can use this to your advantage to stay on task. A great outline includes an intro, your business experience and qualifications, what you can offer the customer, and why they should contact you over your competition.

2) Be Happy: One of the most common mistakes I have seen with intro videos is not having a smile from start to finish. Showing that you’re happy, relaxed and enthusiastic will show your potential customers what type of person they are hiring. No one wants to hire someone who clearly isn’t happy with what they do or the service they provide. If you’re passionate and love what you do then the customers will always know you will bring that to any project they hire you for.

3) Be Humble But Informative: You will want to be confident in what you’re offering but not too confident. You want to be proud of your skills but don’t let the district from the true message of your intro video. The main purpose of your intro video is to introduce yourself to the customer, but also provide a structured reason to why you’re there best choice out of anyone they have considered hiring.

4) Keep Track of Your Time: Your intro video should be just that, an introduction. You don’t want to ramble on about why you’re the best fit or why they should hire you. You want to look at this like an elevator pitch. For those of you who don’t know an “elevator pitch” is exactly how it sounds. Pitching something to someone in the time frame it would take for an elevator ride. Try a couple of practice rounds for your intro video and make sure it stays to about 2–3 minutes tops. This is the perfect amount of time to not only inform them, but make sure they keep their interest from start to finish.

5) Watch Before You Post: Once you feel confident you have a finished intro video you will want to give it a watch. When you watch it put your mindset as if you were a customer. You are not watching it to critique yourself, but watching to make sure you have a finished product worthwhile to someone looking at your business with fresh eyes. It is also best to send it to someone. Having a second pair of eyes looking at your video is another way to gain that outside perspective with feedback that you wouldn’t get from customers.

6) Add That Video & Wait For Success: Once you have completed the above steps completed all you have to do is post the video to your business page website or online profile for a lead generation website. For you business website, I highly suggest adding it on your homepage. Make sure it is close to the top and imbedded properly. Most people will upload the video to YouTube or Vimeo to have it on a platform that is easy to get an embedded code for your website. This is very easy to do, especially on these platforms since they have the option to provide embedded codes for easy posting.

Really it is that easy. This is something you could easily complete from your smartphone. Any business owner I have pitched this to over the years has always come back thanking me for this idea and sharing their success. Most people will find a better connection with a business owner than the standard norm of giving them a call.

Let’s be honest, no one wants to talk on the phone these days, it’s a proven fact. If that wasn’t the case you would call someone more than you text them. Not to mention no one really wants to have a company have their personal phone number unless they are absolutely sure they want to work with them.

So look at it this way, a customer sees your intro video, reaches out to you and is more than confident you’re the best person for the job. Most business owners would kill for results like that. So instead of being stuck on why you’re not getting customers, get focused on why you’re the best fit for them and prove it with your intro video.
